PROVIDENCE, R.I. — April 5, 2021 – Johnson & Wales University (JWU) will launch a new Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science in fall 2021. The program, which is part of the university’s growing College of Health & Wellness, focuses on the human body, injury recovery and how nutrition, psychology and exercise come together holistically for optimum health.

“This program expands Johnson & Wales’ growing footprint in the health care arena and further establishes JWU as a comprehensive university,” said Laura Galligan, Ph.D., dean, College of Health & Wellness. “The demand for skilled graduates in this field continues to rise. Students who complete this program will have the skills necessary to do everything from making an impact on our day-to day lives, to working the sidelines of the premiere sports leagues in the world. The sky is the limit.”

Graduates of JWU’s Exercise and Sports Science program will qualify for occupations including recreational therapist, exercise physiologist, medical program coordinator and athletic trainer, among others. Eligible JWU students may also apply to the university’s advanced degree programs in Physician Assistant Studies or Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program.

Demand is strong among students as the university has received more than 100 applications to date.
