JWU Announces 2023 Commencement Plans for Providence Campus

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — March, 15, 2023 – Johnson & Wales University (JWU) today announced plans for its commencement exercises in May. The university will hold the ceremonies at the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Saturday, May 6. Graduate programs will receive their degrees starting at 10 a.m., followed by undergraduate programs at 2 p.m. 

“The two most important days in a student's life are the first day of classes and graduation,” said Chancellor Mim Runey, LP.D. “In May, we will celebrate our students’ achievements and the work we have done to educate and support them during their time at Johnson & Wales University.”

During the ceremonies, JWU will award two honorary doctor degrees. Each recipient will deliver the Commencement address for the corresponding ceremony. Both recipients have notable reputations in their field and are recognized for their distinguished careers and positive influence on their industries and communities. 

  • James R. Langevin, the former member of Congress who represented Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District for over two decades, will deliver the keynote address at the morning ceremony for graduate students, and will receive an honorary Doctor of Business Administration.
  • Jodi L. Berg, Ph.D., author and former Chief Executive Officer of Vitamix, will deliver the keynote address at the afternoon undergraduate ceremony and will receive an honorary Doctor of Business Administration.
